Set up Outlook Express for the first time

This section provides easy, step-by-step instructions to configure Outlook Express for the first time.

What you need before you start

In order to setup your email program on your computer or mobile device, you will need the following email settings.

Incoming mail settings:

 Port: You can keep your program set to the default ports.
 Authentication: Username and password

Outgoing mail settings:


Note: If you are attempting to access your email while over Bell Mobility's Network, you need to use Bell's outgoing mailserver (

 Port: 2225
 Authentication Requires authentication, it must be configured in client (same account username and password as POP).

  • Your e-mail address and password. If you do not know your e-mail address or password, contact us.

Follow these easy steps

  1. Launch Outlook Express
  2. Enter your name, click Next
  3. Enter your e-mail address, click Next
  4. Enter the following information:
    1. The 'Incoming e-mail server type:' should be set as POP3.
    2. Incoming Server:
    3. Outgoing Server:
    4. Click Next
  5. Enter the following information:

    1. Account name: Enter your e-mail address
    2. Password: enter in the password
    3. Select Remember Password if you want Outlook Express to save your password
    4. Click Next
  6. Click Finish
  7. We must now configure more settings before using the account. 
  8. From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.
  9. Choose the Mail tab in the Accounts window.
  10. Click on the account you want to edit, and then click the Properties button.
  11. Check that the account has the following settings: Servers tab

    • Incoming server:
    • Outgoing server:
    • Account: Your username
    • Password: Your password
    • My server requires authentication: Checked
    Advanced tab Outgoing mail:

    • Port: 2225
    • This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked
    Incoming mail:

    • Port: default
    • This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked
  12. When you’re done making changes, click OK.
  13. Click Close in the Internet Accounts window.
